HISTORY
Don't be afraid, Maria,
because you found grace before God
Parish of Santa Maria de Oliveira
In the list of churches of Entre Lima and Minho, created by the Inquirings of D. Afonso III in 1258, it is mentioned as one of the churches belonging to the bishopric of Tui, then nicknamed by the church of "Ulveira". In 1444, the ecclesiastical region of Valença was divided from the bishopric of Tui and this for the bishopric of Ceuta. But there are other documents that appear referred to, such as that of 1580, of D. Friar Baltasar Limpo, where Santa Maria de Oliveira was presented by the Monastery of Vila Nova de Muía. According to Américo Costa, his income was divided between this monastery and the Viscounts of Vila Nova cerveira. Later, the right of presentation became part of mitra and Santa Cross of Coimbra. He has been in the Diocese of Viana do Castelo since November 3, 1977.
